Driving around the Chicago area usually means busy roads. Most of the time drivers are careful and don’t engage in dangerous driving behaviors like speeding, texting while driving, etc. But there are still some drivers who don’t follow the rules and endanger the lives of everyone they meet on the road.

A serious accident recently occurred on the Eisenhower Expressway on the Near West Side. A man was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis when he rear-ended a Kia Optima near Paulina Street. Because of the impact, the Kia then hit a Chevrolet Silverado that was in front of it. The accident resulted in 12 people being taken to area hospitals with serious to critical injuries. The victims ranged in ages from 1 to 72-years-old. The driver of the Mercury has been cited for following too closely.

Every day, Chicago area drivers encounter bad driving on area roads. Luckily, most of the time drivers are able to avoid a serious accident but occasionally a person’s luck runs out and they are unexpectedly seriously injured. Families who are dealing with a seriously injured loved one due to no fault of their own may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled at personal injury. An attorney understands that a family is not only dealing with the emotional trauma of having a seriously injured loved one but they may also be facing an uncertain financial future. Their injured loved one may not be able to return to work any time soon, if at all, forcing a family to wonder how they are now going to be able to pay the rent, buy food, pay the bills, etc. A legal professional can help the victim’s family by finding out what happened to cause the accident and who is at fault. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.

An unexpected accident can turn a family’s life upside down. A family should understand that they have legal rights in these situations.
