Two men’s lives have sadly been lost as the result of a car accident in Chicago. The accident took place at about 12:45 p.m. on a recent Sunday. Sometimes, these types of car crashes occur due to driver negligence, which can be grounds for litigation.
How the accident occurred
According to police, a car carrying two men was moving quickly along a road and suddenly left the street and hit a tree. This caused the car to catch fire. Onlookers reported that they could see smoke coming from the fire from far away.
Police reported that they did not know how quickly the car had been going before leaving the roadway. The two men who were in the car at the time of the accident suffered injuries and were therefore taken to medical centers. However, both ended up being pronounced dead in the crash. One of the men was 24 years old, and the age of the other man was not immediately known. Authorities continued to investigate the cause of the fiery single-car crash.
How an attorney can help victims of these tragic situations
Through their investigation, Illinois police may determine that the accident was the result of careless driving—for example, speeding. In this situation, the surviving loved ones of the male passenger who died in the crash may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the deceased driver’s estate, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained in the crash. Anyone else with an ownership interest in the car that was involved in the accident may also be named in the suit. A successfully litigated suit might lead to damages to cover medical bills, burial costs and other accident-related losses.
