A man’s life has sadly been lost after an alleged drunk driving accident in Illinois. A woman was also injured in the tragic accident. The unfortunate incident occurred early in the morning on a recent Sunday.
Events leading up to the accident
The tragic accident occurred at about 1 a.m. along Wildwood Drive. According to police, a 23-year-old man was driving while intoxicated and suddenly crashed. Although the alleged drunk driver survived, another 22-year-old man died in the collision. In addition, a 23-year-old woman suffered injuries and was therefore taken by helicopter to a medical center, where her condition was deemed critical.
The man who reportedly caused the accident now faces a felony charge of aggravated DUI (one count) in connection with the fatal collision. Additional charges may also be filed, pending the result of the police investigation. The man’s bond was set at $5,000 during a court appearance on the day after the accident.
Legal recourse is often possible for victims of these situations
The surviving loved ones of the man who died in the alleged drunk driving accident may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the man who is believed to have caused the accident. Likewise, the injured woman may opt to file a personal injury claim against the reported drunk driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the arrested man ends up being convicted on his charge, proof of the conviction may be presented in civil court with the goal of establishing liability for the accident. If the plaintiffs are successful in court, they may be awarded damages to cover hospital bills, funeral costs and other losses related to the Illinois accident.
