A man has sadly lost his life in a tragic car crash in Illinois. Another man suffered injuries in the collision, which involved three automobiles and occurred in the late-night hours on a recent Sunday. Sometimes these types of crashes are the result of driver negligence, which is grounds for litigation.
Events leading up to the motor vehicle collision
The tragic car accident took place at about 10:17 p.m. According to authorities, a car was traveling west along an avenue and suddenly struck a sport utility vehicle. The car then reportedly hit a second car.
A passenger in the first car was transported to a medical center with injuries but was later pronounced deceased there. He was 20 years old. The 22-year-old driver of the car was also injured and taken to a medical center, where his condition was deemed serious. No one else was reportedly injured in the collision. Police continued to investigate the cause of the fatal wreck.
Legal recourse is often possible following these incidents
The surviving loved ones of the passenger who died in the Illinois crash may opt to file a wrongful death claim against the first car’s driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the plaintiffs are able to establish liability based upon a showing of negligence — such as speeding or driving while distracted — a civil court judge will decide their claim for damages. In a successfully litigated claim, they may be awarded damages to cover the deceased man’s burial costs and other losses, such as the loss of support for any surviving dependents he may have left behind.
