Two women’s lives have sadly been lost in a tragic wrong-way accident involving a semi-truck in Illinois. The motor vehicle collision occurred early in the morning on a recent Saturday. Now, the women’s surviving loved ones are left to grieve over their deaths and question how such an accident could have taken place.

How the accident occurred

The unfortunate crash took place at about 4 a.m. along Interstate 55. According to authorities, a 30-year-old woman was driving a car south in the interstate’s northbound lanes. All of a sudden, the car she was operating crashed into a semi-truck head-on.

The woman driving the car passed away as a result of the impact of the crash. Her 32-year-old female passenger was also pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver suffered injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. Authorities continued to investigate the cause of the wreck.

Where victims can turn for help and support

The family members of the female passenger who died in the Illinois accident may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the deceased car driver’s estate, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. Likewise, anyone with an ownership interest in the car involved in the truck crash may be sued. Liability has to be established, based upon a showing of negligence, before a judge will decide the claim for damages. If the plaintiffs prevail in civil court, they may receive a financial damage award to cover the deceased passenger’s burial costs and other losses stemming from the crash.
