A man’s life has sadly been lost as the result of a single-vehicle crash in Montgomery, Illinois. Now, his surviving loved ones are left to grieve over his death. Sometimes, these types of crashes occur due to negligent driving, which is grounds for litigation.
How the crash occurred
The recent tragic collision took place at about 8:30 p.m. on a Wednesday. Authorities said they were attempting to stop a crossover along Route 30, but the driver drove off with the goal of evading police. Police eventually found the motor vehicle, which had been crashed into a tree.
Although the driver had fled the scene, the male passenger remained in the crossover. Police said he had suffered serious injuries and was therefore transported to a medical center, where he ended up being pronounced deceased. He was 26. The whereabouts of the driver were not immediately known following the crash.
How an attorney can help victims of these situations
If police end up finding the driver of the crossover, the loved ones of the man who died in the crash may choose to file a wrongful death claim against him, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the driver is criminally charged and then convicted on these charges in connection with the collision, the deceased victim’s family members may present the convictions in civil court with the goal of establishing liability in the Illinois crash. If the family members are successful, they may receive damages to cover their loved one’s burial costs, the loss of support for his surviving dependents and any other accident-related losses.
