Workers Comp IME
Independent Medical Evaluations (IME’s)
In a workers’ compensation case, the insurance company has the right to send you to a doctor of its own choice for an independent medical evaluation, or IME. When we find out about your IME we will notify you about it. Please remember that you must go to the IME. If you fail to attend, the insurance company may legally stop paying your medical costs and your TTD. Oftentimes, the insurance company uses this doctor’s opinion to justify discontinuing further medical treatment and ordering you back to work. For instance, the doctor who does the IME may say that your injuries are not work-related or that they are not as severe as your treating doctor claims they are. This is when it is most important for you to have an attorney to fight on your behalf for the medical treatment and other benefits you deserve.
